Local Man Given Croke Park Gig

Congratulations to local man James Connors who was the fourth official for yesterday’s All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Final between Cuala and Ballyhea at Croke Park.

James played for the local Naomh Brid Juvenile G.A.A. Club and for the Sliabh gCua/Saint Mary’s G.A.A. Club a number of years back and for a while was the sub goalkeeper for the Waterford Minor Hurling team that included the likes of Ken McGrath.

In the last number of years James is living in Donegal and has become a referee in the Ulster County and is attached to the Saint Eunan’s G.A.A. Club.

Since becoming a referee, James has made a name for himself and won the Referee’s Award at the Donegal G.A.A. Banquet in 2015 and last year he joined the band of Inter County Hurling Referee’s and has taken charge of a number of games in the National League since then, his first game being between Monaghan and Tyrone at Clones in Division 3A.

Last year he also took charge of the Donegal Senior Hurling Final between Sean Mac Cumhaills and Burt, a game won by Sean Mac Cumhaills, and was also the man in the middle for the Donegal County Under 21 ‘B’ Football Final between Killybegs and Letterkenny Gaels, a game won by the Killybegs Club

No doubt we will see and hear more about James as a Knight of the Whistle in the years to come.
