Sympathy is extended to the family of Sr. Ann
Kiely who died during the week and who was buried in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway
yesterday. Sr. Ann was sister of Sr. Maria also in Ballinasloe and Sr. Angela
in Dungarvan and also to Sr. Gertrude (Marjorie) R.I.P. and Fr. Jim R.I.P.
Sr. Ann like many before here locally was
educated at the old schools in Touraneena between 1942 and 1950. From there she
moved to the Mercy Convent in Dungarvan. She later went to Maria Assumpta
College London where she studied to be a teacher. She studied for a Bachelor of
Arts in Melbourne University and studied for a Bachelor of Divinity in
Melbourne College of Divinity.
She joined the Franciscan Missionaries of
Divine Motherhood in 1955 and was based in England from 1955 to 1960 before
moving to Australia from 1960 to 1986. She then worked in Israel from 1986 to
1987 and returned to Australia between 1987 and 1989. She worked in England
again after this before to live in Ireland once more. In 1995 she was elected Superior General of
her congregation. In this capacity she visited many areas including, Australia,
Gibraltar, Italy, Jordan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Philippines,
Scotland, Singapore, the United States, Zambia, Zimbabwe and of course England
and Ireland.
To her
sisters, Sr. Angela, Mercy Convent, Dungarvan and Sr. Maria F.M.D.M.,
Ballinasloe, relatives and friends, F.M.D.M. Sisters, Mercy Sisters and staff
at Franciscan Convent.
